FPSO Cidade de Maricá, is the successor of the FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela and a sister vessel to FPSO Cidade de Saquarema. These vessels join the Cidade de Paraty to be SBM Offshore’s four FPSOs for pre-salt vessels offshore Brazil; each one utilising SBM Offshore’s ‘Generation 3’ (G3) design.
Oleochem proudly provided a full laboratory package to SBM Offshore for each vessel. The packages included the engineering and construction of an A60 laboratory module, certified by ABS and all the required items to start-up the laboratory – this included furniture, ducted fume cupboard, chemical storage cabinets, analytical equipment, chemicals, consumables and procedure manuals.
This was not Oleochem’s first Brazilian build, however it was not without its difficulties. Firstly, CdM and CdS were built side-by-side; this allowing Oleochem to press suppliers for further discount and staggering builds by one week allowed the same team to work on both projects. Secondly, with the Brazilian industry picking up, new regulations were coming into place. This made it our first project where we had to apply the new local regulations – including changing control panel switch colours, providing dual language safety signs and the biggest challenge, the translation of technical drawings and operating manuals into Brazilian Portuguese.
